Question about Mineral impurites?

Why are impurites not included as part of mineral chemical formulas? For example Quartz, Si02 is not 100% pure and can contain traces of iron, (amethyst) and Titanium (Rose quatrz) yet these trace elements are not considered part of the chemical formula-Si02. Any help would be appreciated.
