Help! My computer is connected to the internet and yet I cannot reliably surf the web!?

After a random amount of time the connection will not drop but rather, pages will just not load. I have to manually disconnect and reconnect in order to refresh my browser to see a new page. For a few seconds again I can browse fine until it just stops loading and the cycle begins again. Any help would be really appreciated!
