Can a chihuahua and australian shepard have babies?

I have a 2 yr old australian sheppard and a 8 month old chihuahua i am wondering if when she goes into heat if my australian shepard will try and get her and if he would get her would it be possible for her to have babies without hurting her........... We have a vets appointment to get them fixed in october but i am worried until then.
